CARE GUIDE
We want to help you make your jewellery pieces last. Here are some tips on what you can do to avoid alteration or damage.
925 STERLING SILVER
All our silver pieces are made from 925 Silver, also known as Sterling Silver. 925 is an alloy containing 92.5% silver, the remaining percentage being a combination of other metals such as copper and zinc that create a perfect balance to achieve the right quality and hardness in the material. Using 925 Sterling Silver over 999 Pure Silver is deliberate, as 925 is stronger and can last a lifetime due to its combined material properties.
The great thing about 925 sterling silver jewelry is that you can wear your pieces all day, every day with minimal tarnishing. Contact with water, such as when you wash your hands, shower, or go for a swim won’t cause significant tarnishing to the material. Sterling silver also does not rust. However, Sterling silver will tarnish slightly when in contact with gaseous compounds in the air containing sulfur, leaving a dark coating or tarnish on the silver. Humidity, chlorine, make-up, cleaning products, and even the acid in your skin can all contribute to tarnishing. BUT - no panic - tarnish isn’t permanent. Give your sterling silver a simple polish, and it’s as good as new.
When you are not wearing your jewelry it is advisable to store them in our accompanying jewelry packaging. For everyday wear, we recommend wiping your jewelry with a silver polishing cloth to remove dirt, makeup, skin oils, pollutants, etc. When you polish your jewelry regularly, it will maintain its shine longer.
In case your silver pieces show wear and tear, you can easily make them good as new by cleaning them. Here is an eco-friendly solution for cleaning your sterling silver jewelry at home:
You will need a small bowl, a layer of tinfoil and some salt. First, place a layer of tinfoil over the entire surface of the bowl, then add salt to the bottom. Place your jewelry in the bowl on top of the salt, and add hot water. A chemical reaction will occur, and you should see your jewelry becoming clean while the oxidation transfers to the foil instead of your jewelry piece. Let it sit for a few minutes, and finally carefully remove the jewelry, rinse thoroughly and dry it off with a cotton cloth.
GOLD-PLATED 925 STERLING SILVER
Gold-plated jewelry pieces require more care as this material is more prone to wear and tear from daily usage. Our gold jewelry pieces are made from a 925 sterling silver base with a gold layer plated on top. This layer can wear off over time due to contact with external elements, exposing the sterling silver base.
It is recommended to take off your gold-plated jewelry pieces in the following situations, in order to prolong the gold plating:
in contact with water, such as when showering, swimming, washing dishes, sweating, etc
in contact moist or harsh chemicals, such as makeup, body creams, cosmetics, soaps, cleaning detergents, etc
Remove your jewelry before going to bed
It is advisable to store your jewelry in our accompanying jewelry packaging to keep it away from sunlight and air when you are not wearing it.
